The interwebs shut down yesterday as millions of websites participated in a global protest by blacking out their sites to stop SOPA. Sites like Wikipedia, Reddit, the Mozilla corporation, and tons of other sites closed their doors for 12 hours, showing a solidarity rarely seen on the internet. In place of the usual content we search and check every day, we saw a community form, a petition spread across the world, and everyday internet users getting involved to keep censorship off the internet.
And it was not in vain. Major backers of SOPA abondened the bill, putting a major roadblock in the way of its passing. But the best way to win any battle like this is by being informed, and looking at how this bill actually affects us. How it affects our work, our internet, our world.
So in the spirit of the information age that we live in, it’s time to get informed. Grizzly Bomb and The Wozz have put together an article outlining Sopa/PIPA, and everything you need to know about it. Also what you can do to make your voice heard. plus it has videos. Everyone loves videos. I urge you to check it out, because this affects everyone.
Keep the Internet Free. Stop Censorship. Stop SOPA/PIPA.
